5 Tips for Decorating a Small Bathroom

We don't all have the luxury of a spa sized washroom, but that doesn't mean we can't make the best of a small situation. Check out these genius ideas for saving space where space is limited.

1. Double up on medicine cabinets.

Yup, that's right. We all know mirrors make everything look larger so while you double up on them, why not make them functional as well. Storage is always lacking in bathrooms and a medicine cabinet takes up very little space. Adding an extra one over the toilet instead of some inspiration quote decal (enough of those please), will take up no extra space and provide necessary organizational opportunities. Also, stay away from thick framed cabinets and opt instead for one with either a thin frame or none at all.

2. Declutter

Don't display everything you own. There is no need for layers of picture frames on shelves and 5 towels rolled in a basket. Unless you are running a bed and breakfast, keep the necessaries tucked away under the sink and the unnecessaries out.

3. Decorate with colour

Small rooms can still take colour, just do it right. An accent wall can draw the eye, making a room appearing longer. Stay away from colours that feel too dark, instead go bright or light.

4. Ditch the Tub

Ok, so this isn't really 'decorating' but think of all the space wasted with a bathtub. If you are in renovation mode, take it out and replace it with a glassed off shower and your space is increased instantly. You can easily fit a 'spa-like' luxurious shower in the space a tub takes up.

5. Lighting

In small bathrooms, task lighting is probably all that is necessary. Avoid lights over the vanity and instead opt for sconces at eye level on either side of the mirror. This will give you shadowless illumination, perfect for shaving or applying makeup and just looking great in general :)
